How to apply hair products before blow drying - Part 1 of 6

Have you ever considered that the application of a product can be a contributing factor in a client’s unwillingness to use it at home? Manufacturers have listened! The approach to dispensing product from packaging has changed for the better making it so much easier for the end user.
We need to teach our clients how WE apply the product to THEIR hair so THEY can achieve the same results at home for a successful outcome! Applying product in tiers will result in product layering together to achieve maximum results, not to mention the retail benefits.

Primer

  • Slice a casual section at the nape area just below the occipital with a Sam Villa Dry Sectioning Clip.
  • Dispense Redken Pillow Proof Blow Dry Express Treatment Primer Cream into hands.
  • Emulsify into palms and coat product in between fingers and back of hands.
  • Approach the nape by folding hands into the section ensuring contact with hair in between your fingers.
  • Move on to the area above occipital and divide into two sections.
  • Apply product to the lower top section first, then move on to the front.

Styling Product

  • Dispense Redken Satinwear 02 into the hands.
  • Emulsify into palms and coat product in between fingers and back of hands.
  • Approach the nape and top sections altogether to layer Satinwear 02 in with Pillow Proof Blow Dry Express Treatment Primer Cream.

This technique makes perfect sense! You now have product all over your hands, not just in your palms – another factor of doing things differently to achieve maximum results!

How to wrap dry hair - Part 2 of 6

Wrap drying is all about the direction – direct your brush in the direction you desire the hair to move. The direction along with the head as a foundation and styling product will result in a smooth shiny finish to be proud of!

Looking for ultimate polish in your finished blow dry? The Professional Paddle Brush is your new best friend! Wrap drying with a paddle brush is second to none when it comes to a smooth and polished finish.

We use the head shape as our foundation to smooth the hair allowing for quick depletion of moisture with a controlled directional process. Wrap drying also eliminates unwanted frizz and fly-a ways.

The Wrap-Dry Technique

Front/Top Area
HOT TIP - Begin in the front as this is the area that will stand to become frizzy if not first tended to.

  • Position the nozzle on a diagonal to keep the elbow down while drying for comfort.
  • Place the bristles of the paddle brush parallel to the grain of the hair close to the head.
  • Slice a section of hair away and follow through with the Sam Villa Light Professional Ionic Blow Dryer and nozzle.
  • Keep the dryer at least 3-6 inches away from the hair and brush to deter heat from compromising the hair and brush.
  • Using the head shape as your foundation, continue with the top area (above the parietal ridge) in a follow through until the hair is dry.

Side Area

  • Move on to the side area below the parietal ridge.
  • Position the paddle brush parallel to the grain of the hair approximately 2-3 inches back from the hairline.
  • Insert the brush bristles into the hair and push the brush forward following through with your dryer.

How to curl your hair with a round brush - Part 3 of 6

Heating up the barrel of a thermal brush for work on fine to medium hair will affect the section immediately as it comes into contact with the hair.

The key is the cooling and resting period to ensure long lasting curl pattern.

The Curling Technique
Once you have the moisture out of each section it is essential to set each section:

  • Dry each section with the Professional Thermal Brush and the Light Professional Ionic Blow Dryer.
  • Direct the nozzle to the grain of the hair to smooth the cuticle and control fly-aways.
  • Once the section is completely dry, point the top side of the brush to the head.
  • Unwrap the brush out of the section in the same direction that you wrapped the section.
HOT TIP-Be sure to maintain a tight coil while unwrapping.
  • Once the section is unwrapped immediately apply a light mist of Redken triple take 32 hair spray to the entire section.
  • Pick up the section with your index finger and overlap with the opposite index finger.
  • Begin a swaying motion, back and forth to wrap the section to the head in a barrel curl.
  • Secure the curl with a Sam Villa Dry Clip to allow the section to cool and rest.
HOT TIP-Why use the Sam Villa Dry Clip? These professionally designed clips provide maximum grip on dry hair without leaving any lines of demarcation.

How to apply mousse before blow drying - Part 4 of 6

The correct application of styling product is essential for any blow dry. This novel approach for applying mousse is sure to raise client attention as the typical application of a styling product with the hands.

Dispensing the Styling Product

Dispense Redken stay high 18 onto a towel – place as much onto a towel as you would if you were to dispense directly into the palm of your hand.

Application of Styling Product

HOT TIP-You want to apply the styling product section by section within the isolated parting to gain the most benefit from the styling product as well as the most benefit with your brush in the blow dry.

  • Part out your sections with the Sam Villa Dry Clips.
HOT TIP- Use the sine teeth of a Sam Villa Signature Series Long Cutting Comb for the mousse application; Ivory for dark hair or black for light hair for maximum visual contrast.
  • Push the comb down into the product, fan it out on to the towel to capture the mousse into the teeth of the comb-If you think you have too much product on the comb just wipe some off on the towel.
  • Comb the product into the section.
  • Repeat the application through the areas where you desire the most volume in the end result.

How to create volume on top of the head | The Volume Zone - Part 5 of 6
