Watch and follow along as you'll discover a different way to create a fishtail braid updo, but with more width and volume! The technique is simple, just get the rhythm down you'll master this fishtail braid in no time at all!
What’s the trick to a big thick statement braid?
- Texture - Texturizing hair first with a Professional Texurizing Iron can add up to three times more volume! This is HUGE, especially for those with fine hair. It not only makes the braid bigger, the added texture helps hold the braid in place as well.
- Product - Before braiding, apply Redken braid aid 03 braid defining lotion - a defining hair lotion specifically designed to add smoothness and grip to make braiding and twisting hair easier. It also provides mild control for super smooth braids that stay put.
“This technique is simple, get the rhythm down and remember that product is not an option, it’s a necessity,” says Villa.
Begin by creating a regular fishtail braid.
Take a slice on the right side and hand it to the client to hold.
Take a section on the left side and hand to the client to isolate.
Repeat the same step on the right side, but grabbing the first section your guest is holding and weaving it back into the braid.
Repeat this rhythm until you get to the bottom of the hair and secure with an elastic.
Pancake the braid to loosen before securing up into an upstyle with hair pins.
Remember to take your time and follow the rhythm! Don't hesitate to walk your guests through the process of creating this braid, another way to create trust and value behind the chair.
